We present a two-part program opening with the emerging young vocalist, Arati Kundalkar, and closing with a Tabla solo by none other than Pt. Yogesh Samsi, one of the world’s leading Tabla players and an incomparable soloist!

Arati Kundalkar is an emerging talent in Hindustani classical music. She is one of the young torch bearers of ‘Kirana Gharana.’ Arati started learning classical music at the age of 9 from Smt. Leelatai Gharpure. She picked up the nuances of Kirana Gayki under the strict watchful eye of Smt. Gharpure. She continued to learn from Smt. Gharpure for 11 years. She will be accompanied by Suyog Kundalkar on harmonium and Sanjay Deshpande on Tabla.

Pandit Yogesh Samsi is a consummate artist in both fields of accompaniment and solo playing. The son of the renowned vocalist Pandit Dinkar Kaikini, he was initiated into tabla by his father at the tender age of four, and later received guidance under Pandit H. Taranath Rao. However it was under the gifted tutelage of the legendary Ustad Alla Rakha that Yogesh received intense training for twenty-three years and, matured into a fine young tabla player.

Yogesh has accompanied almost all of he top ranking instrumentalists, vocalists and dancers of India, including Ustad Vilayat Khan, Pt Dinkar Kaikini, Pt Bhimsen Joshi, Pt Shivkumar Sharma, Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and Pt Birju Maharaj.

Apart from accompaniment, Yogesh has performed numerous memorable solo performances in India and abroad. He has also had the privilege of accompanying his teacher Ustad Alla Rakha and his son the great maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain in their solo tabla recitals.
